Bound For a Lifetime
There are few truly special and unique days in our lives. Everyone has unique days, such as birthdays and births in the family. Many people are fanatically scrapbooking their family photos into heirlooms for their children and grandchildren. However, there is one day that many of us experience that are truly unique-our wedding day.
Weddings are unique in many aspects; it’s difficult to have two weddings exactly the same. There is always some variable in how weddings differ from each other, but no matter what the differences are between your wedding and the Joneses down the street, this is YOUR day and it is special. This is a day you will likely treasure for the rest of your life. What better way to capture the entire event than by scrapbooking the event into a bound book that will last for decades?
There are of course the ‘normal’ scrapbooking practices-taking your photos and arranging them on pages. Pictures are cut out using special scissors and templates so that they fit best on the page you are creating. Pages are also adorned with backgrounds and stickers, buttons and baubles and many, many other creative ideas. The possibilities when scrapbooking your special wedding day are endless.
Think about your wedding, or your upcoming wedding, as the case may be. There are photos galore and photo opportunities galore. Photos of the wedding party, of the bride and groom, of the bride’s and groom’s families, as well as photos of the first dance the bride and groom share. There is also the opportunity for photos of the people in attendance at the wedding and at the reception. A photo of the bride’s mom crying gently into her hankie. A photo of the groom’s brother giving a toast at the reception. The cute little girl throwing flowers on the aisle.
Yes, there are a million photos that go along with your wedding day, but there are other things that are a part of your wedding that you can scrapbook and bind into a book.
Have you thought about including the invitation card, the table placard, the lace that those little chocolates were wrapped in, a piece of the plastic that made up the flowers that adorned your ‘just married’ sign on your car or the gold ring that held the wedding announcements together? These are all things that you can include in your book binding and scrapbooking of your wedding day.
Scrapbooks are beautiful pieces of artwork. The pages can last an eternity-especially if you bind them in a book. This form of altered book will be a keepsake for your family for decades to come. By book binding your scrapbooking pages, you can ensure that the fairy tale story of your wedding will remain intact and in proper order so that future generations of your family can relive your special day.
By organizing your photos and other sundries from your special wedding day, you can create organized and clear scrapbook pages that will tell the wonderful story of your special day. By scrapbooking and then book binding the scrapbooking pages, your hard work and creativity will create a family heirloom piece of art that tells a story.
Can you picture your great-granddaughter sitting down with her young child, your great-great-granddaughter decades from now and sharing the special story of your wedding? By book binding your scrapbooking pages, this beautiful scenario can be your family 60 years from now.

Six pack abs for this summer
When I was younger I always wanted to tone up my stomach and achieve the illusive six packs. I remember buying a work out video that was all the rage. It promised to give me killer abs in a workout that lasted about 8 minutes. I tried it for a few weeks and didn’t feel many results. I didn’t know what I was doing wrong. It wasn’t until recently that I learned the secret to getting six packs.
Six pack abs means that your stomach is so toned that you can see the muscles and the lines between them, and it looks like a six pack of soda. In order to define the muscles to this extent you have to lose the fat on your stomach that is covering them up. No wonder my 8 minutes of exercise wasn’t effective! I needed to lose weight too. Doing a lot of abs exercises won’t make you lose the fat on your tummy. You have to eat right and do cardio exercise to lose the fat and let the muscles show through in that gorgeous six pack pattern. Now you know the secret of getting six packs so get yourself to the gym!
Perfect Packing for Women
There has been many articles written on packing luggage. My own mother taught me to pack with tissue paper between all of your articles of clothing. That would be totally impractical today with the weight restrictions on baggage. You want to fill your suitcase with clothing, not with paperThe new upright wheeling luggage has its own restrictions on packing. It requires a different method of layering your clothing. I always begin with underwear on the bottom against the “bars” which are actually the pull up handle underneath the lining. This evens out the bottom of the case for the next layer of clothing.
It simplifies things to plan what I’ll be wearing in advance. I have everything on a thin wire hanger that comes from the dry cleaners. These are the lightest weight hangers and will take up the least amount of room in the suitcase. The blouse goes on the hanger first, followed by the slacks underneath and the jacket on top. If there’s a pin that matches the suit, pin it to the lapel. Then I put 3 hangers in the suitcase with the hanger beginning at the short end. And then 3 more hangers beginning at the opposite end. I continue packing like that until all of my clothing on hangers is in the case. Then I neatly fold one layer over from one end, and then the next layer over from the other end. The hangers stay at opposite ends with the clothing folded into the middle. If done properly, your clothing will have only one soft crease where it has been folded. Then I add pajamas rolled up to fit around the perimeter or in any empty spaces. Then I place my shoes in shoe mittens or shoe covers and place them around the perimeter. Remember not to bring too many pairs of shoes because of the weight limit imposed on luggage by the airlines. I also try to bring one neutral colored shawl or sweater that will match most of the clothing I’ve packed and I throw in a small travel umbrella.
When I unpack everything is ready to hang and rarely does anything require ironing. As anyone who has traveled knows, there are never enough hangers in any hotel room. I also carry a portable steamer, just in case there is some wrinkling. The new steamers are small, use tap water from any country, and are dual voltage, so they can be used virtually anywhere.
I never pack spray bottles or cans in my luggage. I prefer to put anything that can damage my clothing in my carryon bag. That includes creams, lotions, sprays, shampoos and perfumes. Baggage is not pressurized and will loosen even the tightest closed containers. A plastic closure bag or waterproof bag helps, but damage has been known to occur, so I always play it safe by putting that type of item in my carryon bag. Most hotels today have hair dryers, but if you are used to a more powerful dryer, you might want to bring a travel model with you. Some hotels have coffee machines and others do not. If coffee is important first thing in the morning or evening, check out the small travel models.
Perfect packing takes time and experience - you’ll soon learn what items you can do without and the ones that make your trip most pleasant.

Do You Know What To Do If Someone You Loved One Is In the Hospital?
If someone you know and love is in the hospital there are a few
things you need to know especially if you are the Heath Care
Agent or the surrogate that will be acting and making decisions
for the patient.
Keep a notebook and a pen available with you at all times. You
will have many things going through your mind that you may need
to keep track of and the notebook will be helpful. Much of this
information will be exchanged in the days to come with
physicians, other family members and friends, and the discharge
planner. Family or friends may be asking you questions and
offering to do things for you. You do not have to do all of the
writing, assign whoever is with you to do some of the writing
for you.
Be sure to use the opportunities that family and friends will be
offering you now. Select someone you trust who is supportive to
be your helper. Let that individual know what it is that you
need for them to do. Several others will be offering to help as
well, but for the next few days you need a support person. There
will be those that offer to do specific things for you, allow
them to do those things as long as you trust them. Then, there
will be other individuals that will ask if there is anything
that they can do for you that is non-specific, if know what
these individuals can do for you, go ahead and ask them to do
it. Make the most out of this opportunity to allow others to
give to you when they offer. (They may not later).
Find out who the discharge planner is and schedule a meeting as
soon as possible. Discharge planning is a process and it begins
at admission. The discharge planner will help you arrange the
care needed for your loved one or friend when it is time for
them to go home. They must notify you of their plans before the
discharge occurs. The discharge planner can also be your liaison
to get needed information from physician and the different
specialists who are following your loved one or friend.
Ask the nurse when the physician will be doing his rounds. Most
physicians do daily rounds or have rounds assigned. Be there
during rounds. Make the most of these daily opportunities. This
will be the time that you can ask the physician questions and
set up a meeting to talk about your loved ones condition,
progress, diagnostics, treatments, medication and what may
happen in the future.
Contact your insurance company to find out what is covered or
not covered in your policy. Get the name of a contact person and
their assistant’s name for future questions that you will have
for them about rehabilitation, home care, nursing home care,
etc. If, you have Medicare, the discharge planner or admissions
office will be able to help with Medicare coverage while your
patient is in the hospital.
You are the advocate now. Do not be afraid to ask questions.
Every question you ask and receive answers to will help you make
better decisions about the care your loved one will need. No
matter what it is that you do not know or understand about the
care that your loved one is receiving, ask. Some professionals
forget to break down their knowledge in to terms that are easy
to understand. Ask them to simplify or use layman’s terms.
Take care of yourself. Make sure that you are drinking adequate
fluids including water. Be sure to have your regular meals and
don’t rely on snacks to keep you going. You need rest. Try to
take small naps when your loved one is napping even if it is at
bedside. Use a Do Not Disturb sign if you need to. Remind others
when you need privacy. You may require emotional support. The
hospital has a Chaplin and social workers available that can
offer you support and counseling.
Take some time to think about how you may or may not be able to
care for your loved one. Think about the treatments your loved
one is receiving and if the treatment is one that you can learn
to do. How will you help your loved one with tasks of activities
of daily living? Will you be able to help them walk, transfer,
toilet, dress, bath, and eat if that is the help they need? You
may not be able to some of these tasks, you may require help,
training or maybe a caregiver. You may have to work. Your loved
one may require more treatment or rehabilitation to be able to
come home. In any case, you should carefully evaluate your
circumstances and meet with the discharge planner and let
him/her know what help you may need and find out what
alternatives are available.

Kid Birthday Party Games - Pre-Schoolers
Little ones do not have a long attention span. Ensure the games
are short, about 5-7 minutes, but not longer then 10. They also
do not always understand the rules and etiquette of playing
games. You will need to explain the rules carefully - and repeat
them. Where possible demonstrate the game to them. Seeing is far
more effective then listening. Also their power of listening
retention is only a minute or so long. Ensure that they can all
achieve or get something in the game. Don’t make it so much
about winning but completing the given assignment to get the
reward.
Find your partner
Divide the little ones in two
groups. Tell each child what animal they are. Two children (ie
one from each group) must have the same animal. They must then
find their animal partner using sounds only. The first to find
their partner gets the biggest prize with the others get smaller
prizes.
Born Actors
Children love acting. Give each child a
nursery rhyme. Each one gets a turn to act it out while the
others guess what it is. If you have a large group then pair the
children off, placing older and younger children together.
Balloon Ball
Let the children stand in a circle. Give
each child a number or Disney character. The party child throws
a balloon in the air and calls out a number or character. That
child then hits the balloon up to keep it in the air then shouts
another number or character. Have spare balloons to replace
those that pop. Here are tons more balloon game ideas.
Bubbles
Bubbles are always a hit. Give each child
their own bottle of bubbles. If possible get different sized
objects to blow through. If the children are young blow the
bubbles yourself an let them catch the bubbles.
Pass the parcel
Wrap a toy or packet of sweets. Add
layers of paper around the parcel placing a favor in each layer
of paper. Play music. When it stops the child with the parcel
gets to remove the first layer of paper and keep the favor.
Manipulate the music in such a way that each child has a chance
to remove a layer of paper and thus gets a favor. The winner is
the child who opens the last piece of paper. But no one will
mind as they each received something.
Treasure hunt
Hide as many sweets or toys as there
are children. Party favors are ideal for this. Hide them in such
a way that the article can be seen. As each child finds a toy
let them sit out. You could get the children to place the toys
found in a big basket, which you can deal out more fairly. If
you have pre and school going children together, hide articles
in two parts of the garden (one for each age group) or let the
little ones start first and then only the bigger children.
Musical Statues
This game is great to get the little
ones to calm down. Let them move around while playing music.
When the music stops they must freeze. Those caught moving are
out. The last child is the winner.
Use these ideas - they are sure to be a hit. Here are even more
entertainment ideas for you.
Stocking up your Boat
There, you have just got a boat. A nice new hobby for the weekend and it is time to stock it out. It is time to get all that equipment and gear that you have read about in all the magazines and that you have dreamt about for so long. Time to fill that boat up with all the latest goodies and set sail into the unknown. Sail out and over the horizon, ready for all that may be placed in your way!
The engine has always been my greatest problem and I have this constant nightmare of breaking down whilst away from shore. The last thing that I want to do is to call for help and admit to everybody that I was not ready. Spanners, screwdrivers, engine tool kit and a few essential spares are of course a necessity but the Chain Block and the torque wrench, the hydraulic spanner and the ten-pound hammer? I am not so sure that I will ever really need them at sea.
What are you going to do with them? Lift the engine off the block and do a complete strip down whilst bobbing on the water? Let us look into this before we dive in and fill the boat up full to the brim with unessential items. Before we fill up the cabin drawers with tools of all shapes and sizes and electrical equipment that would stretch your power supply to its limits. It must be remembered that if the problem is a serious one then nine times out of ten you will not have the correct spare part anyway! So what do you really need before you make a storeroom out of every available space onboard?
Tools are essential and maybe the saving grace to any that lose their power at sea. Tools are required to unblock a fuel filter or cure a leaking pipe, but you are not going to be doing a complete overhaul so leave the 18″ monkey wrench behind along with the engine lifting frame and the welding machine. Leave them safely at home in the garage and set sail with the minimum of required tools for essential repairs. Have in your boat enough tools to do the job and leave plenty of space for all the food and goodies that will make the trip into what you dreamt it would be like. Don’t turn your boat into a nightmare with unnecessary tools falling out of cupboards and leaving oily stains everywhere, just have what you need and set sail happily. Don’t have your friends and guests complaining of stubbed toes and bruises on the head as they work there way through the cupboards whilst searching for some food to eat!
The crucial point to remember about engine maintenance and repair is that it should all have been done before you left port. The engine and auxiliary equipment should be in a good condition and able to do the job it is meant to do before you take the last rope off the jetty. So any repairs and work should have been carried out before you even thought of stocking up for the trip. When you set sail you should have underneath you a boat ready and prepared for all occasions, one that you can trust in to do the job that it is required to do.
In many situations the amount of equipment that you carry does depend on the skills that you yourself possess. First of all, if you are not very good at engine overhauls then it is pointless to have the larger pieces of equipment anyway. If you are good at doing engine overhauls and have knowledge about what you are doing then you should not have set sail with a faulty engine in the first place. It is possible that you breakdown through no fault of your own but it is far better to have a good communication system to call for help and swallow your pride than to try and fix the engine yourself.
Essential items therefore consist of a set of spanners, a couple of hammers, a set of screwdrivers, and an adjustable wrench. One monkey wrench of a small size, filter removal strap for the Fuel filters and LO filters, hand crank handle if the engine is small, a spare set of batteries, some spare Lubricating Oil and some odds and ends of screws and nuts and bolts. Along with these items should be the engines tool kit, essential spares for the engine including a couple of injectors, fuel filter and LO filter inserts and anything else that the manufacturer recommends for that engine.
Leave behind the Chain Block, the large Monkey Wrench and the Hydraulic Spanners. Leave behind the spare heads and the spare crankshaft and all the spares that require the use of a chain block. Make sure before you leave that the engine is in top working condition and that you can trust in its ability to take you where you want to go without breaking down on the way. And finally make sure that your communication system is suitable and in a good working condition, so that if a problem does arise help is not far away.
There is no pride to think of when you breakdown. Safety is of a higher priority.
